Over €125K in heritage funding for Cavan and Monaghan

The announcement was made this morning by the Minister of State for Nature, Heritage and Biodiversity.

Over €125,000 in funding for community projects under the Peatlands and Natura Community Engagement Scheme has been allocated across Cavan and Monaghan today.

Local heritage group recipients include the Killyconny Bog Project in County Cavan and the Tydavnet Group Water Scheme, Co Monaghan, each of which receive €40,000.

Also, the River Blackwater Catchment Trust has been allocated two separate grants including €20,000 for the Cor Bog Restoration Project and €25,610 for the Sliabh Beg Restoration Project.

Cavan Monaghan Fianna Fáil TD, Brendan Smith says he received confirmation of the funding this morning from Minister of State for Nature, Heritage and Biodiversity, Christopher O’Sullivan TD.

“These projects promote environmental conservation run by, and for, our local communities,” continued Deputy Smith. “It is local community and voluntary groups that are most aware of the heritage of our native peatlands and their ecosystems.

“It is, therefore, fitting that they should be supported as the driving force in conservation efforts. This funding will empower local initiatives aiming to protect our natural heritage for future generations.”
