Smyth wraps up St Patrick’s Day on Freedom Square

Minister of State at the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Niamh Smyth, wrapped up her commitments as Ireland's representative to some of the Baltic States for St Patrick's Day on Freedom Square in Estonia's capital city, Tallinn.

She was joined there by Ireland's Ambassador to the country, James Sherry from Monaghan.

It capped off a whirlwind few days for the Bailieborough woman who also had to cover commitments to visit Finland, Latvia and Lithuania also to promote Irish interests abroad.

The Cavan-Monaghan TD, who's responsible for Trade Promotion, Artificial Intelligence and Digital Transformation, arrived into the Finnish capital of Helsinki first with Ireland's Finnish Ambassador, Paul Sherlock, and a host of industry and political leaders.

Ireland supports over 60 Irish companies across the Nordic region and with Ambassador Sherlock they welcomed 350 of the Irish diaspora to celebrate St Patrick's Day.

They met Finland's Minister of Economic Affairs, Wille Rydnman, as well as representatives of the Irish digital payments company, SoftCo, among others.

Next stop was the greening of the Vilnelė river in Lithuania with Ambassador Séadhna MacHugh, and then to witness the work of the Irish embassy team in Latvia, led by Eimear Friel.

She met with Vice-minister of Foreign Affairs, Sigitas Mitkus, before heading to Latvia where Minister Smyth met with Minister of Environmental Protection and Regional Development, Inga Bērziņa, as well as young Irish students engaging in next generation medical training at the university in Riga.
