Cold, bright day ahead weather wise but mostly dry

Weather update from Met Éireann

Continuing cold with some frost and ice by night. Showers at times but generally plenty of dry weather over the bank holiday weekend. So says the latest bulletin from Met Éireann.

This morning will start off cold, bright and mostly dry. Cloud will increase through the day and will bring some showers, mainly to the north and west. Highest temperatures of 6 to 10 degrees with a light to moderate northerly or variable wind.

Cold tonight with clear spells and isolated showers at first. Cloud will increase from the northwest as a band of showers move in over Ulster, Connacht and western Munster later. A few sleet showers will be possible on hills. Frost will form in some areas as temperatures fall to between -1 and +4 degrees, in a light and variable wind.

Friday will start off generally cloudy with scattered showers moving southeastwards across the country. Sunnier conditions will follow the clearance from the northwest. The showers will become confined to Munster and south Leinster in the afternoon, becoming drier as the day goes on, with good spells of sunshine developing later. Highest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees in a light to moderate east to northeast wind.

Friday night will be cold and dry with long clear spells. Temperatures will fall to between -3 and 1 degrees so there will be widespread frost and some icy patches. Mist and fog patches will form too, in light and variable winds.

A cold, frosty and sunny start to Saturday with any mist and fog patches clearing. Cloud will increase as the day goes on and a few light showers will develop. Highest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees with light northerly or variable breezes.

Mostly dry and partly cloudy overnight on Saturday, with just isolated light showers. Patches of mist and fog will form in light and variable breezes. Lowest temperatures of 0 to 4 degrees.

Sunday will see a few light showers, but generally dry with varying amounts of cloud. Highest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees with light easterly winds.

A largely dry night on Sunday with just light isolated showers. Clear spells developing in the north and east but remaining rather cloudy elsewhere. Lowest temperatures of 0 to 5 degrees in light southerly winds.

A little breezier on St. Patrick's Day with a moderate southeasterly breeze. After a largely dry start to the day, some light scattered showers will develop. A rather cloudy day for most but some brighter spells will be found towards the east coast. Highest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees.
