Annalee turn in superb performances in Athlone

With the athletics season still young, Annalee put in a very strong showing in the Ulster Indoor Championships held in Athlone Indoor Arena at the weekend.

The Cavan town based club couldn't have got off to a better start. In the opening race of day, the u13 600m, Marianna Osojca hared home in first place while Annabell McDonagh achieved second place, with both young athletes claiming Personal Best times. Marianna and Annabell now look forward to representing their club in the Nationals at the end of the month.

Next up was the U13 60m. In this extremely close race there was nothing between the top four, with Amelia Keegan claiming fourth slot in a fine performance which also saw her set a new a PB. Amelia's 4th place sees her qualify for the nationals.

Amelia didn't have long to catch her breath, as she was part of the U13 4 x 200m relay team. Joining her were teammates Marianna Osojca, Annabell McDonagh and Aisling Costello. The quartet ran a fantastic race to come in second and claim another place in the Nationals.

Ava Baker and Nathan Baker also competed very well, performing with great merit for the club, but were just outside the medal places. In the older competitions, one of the most notable performances for was Annalee was Aurelia Crotty who came second in the u17 at 400m.

The athletes will take huge confidence from Athlone as they eagerly look towards the nationals in late March.

The focus for Annalee now turns to its younger athletes with Sportshall Day 3 taking place in the Craig Lynch Hall in Shercock AC this Saturday, March 8. This event is ideal for new members and as an introduction to athletics. It is for children born 2014-2017. Event starts at 10am and registration is on the morning.
