€1.7M for Cavan FET college

Funding of €1.7 million for the Cavan Further Education and Training college was announced at last week’s CMETB meeting.

The meeting took place at the CMETB head office in Monaghan last Tuesday where directors and board members heard that that campus project is “progressing”.

Storm Éowyn caused tile damage to the campus, however roof works are currently underway.

The storm caused “significant damage” to 10 CMETB schools in total. At Virginia College, a tree fell into the school canteen causing both roof and wall damage; while at the Kingscourt Youthreach building there are slates missing and a gutter pipe that has become dislodged.

At Cavan Institute, slates are also missing with the storm damage also affecting the Adult Education Centre in Ballyjamesduff, where there were are also tiles missing and lead flashing damaged.

Damages were also caused to Tanagh, Monaghan Institute, Coláiste Oiriall, the Garage Theatre, and Balllybay Community College.

The board are currently “in the process of claiming insurance funds for those works”.
