SOSAD announce 'heartbreaking' closure of messaging service
SOSAD 24/7 Freephone Helpline and their free counselling services will continue
Suicide intervention and bereavement support charity SOSAD has announced that it is to close their messaging service due to a lack of funding.
The organisation has been struggling in recent month with a lack of resources and an increased demand on their services, including in Cavan.
Their messaging service is set to close as of Tuesday, March 4.
In a statement posted on social media, SOSAD Ireland said: “We are devastated to announce that, as of Tuesday, March 4, 2025, our Messaging Service will close. This is a decision we never wanted to make, but with the lack of sustainable funding, difficult choices have had to be made to ensure we can continue providing the support we can.”
The charity stated that their messaging service had been “crucial to so many”, and its loss is “truly heartbreaking”.
“We are fighting every day to keep SOSAD Ireland open, but the reality is that some services, like this one, simply cannot be maintained under the current circumstances.”
The SOSAD 24/7 Freephone Helpline (1800 901 909) will remain open, and their free counselling services will continue, but the organisation says: “we need your support. If you are able, please consider donating to us, every contribution helps us to continue supporting those who need it most.”
