Four Cavan schools and three schools in Monaghan
Seven new special classes will be introduced across Cavan-Monaghan for the 2025/2026 school year, providing much-needed support for students with complex special educational needs.
Four Cavan schools and three schools in Monaghan have been approved to establish new special classes, ensuring that more children can access the education they need in a supportive environment.
The Cavan schools include one primary and three post primary.
The primary schools are Carrigabruise National School in Virginia
The secondary schools are Breifne College in Cavan Town, St Aidans Comprehensive School in Cootehill, and Coláiste Dún an Rí in Kingscourt.
The Monaghan schools are St Louis GNS and St. Mary's Scoil Mhuire Muineachán, both primary, and St. Louis Secondary School
Local Fianna Fáil Minister Niamh Smyth has welcomed the announcement.
"I am delighted to receive confirmation that these schools will be opening new special classes next year. This is an important step in ensuring that children with additional needs have the opportunity to learn and thrive in an inclusive setting within their local community," she said.
"More classes are expected to be announced soon, which will further enhance our ability to meet the needs of students requiring extra support."
