Golfers donate €3,000 to Bailieborough Cancer Care
A cheque for €3000 was presented to Bailieborough Cancer Care from the winners of the Ulster GAA Charity Golf tournament.
Held in August last year, the tournament comprises teams from all over Ulster with the winning team donating to their chosen charity.
Team members Paul Healy, John Staunton, Ollie Brady and Laurence O’Brien played wonders on the Bundoran golf course overlooking the Wild Atlantic Way, landing themselves in first place.
“It was a beautiful day when we played it,” recalled Laurence, who chose to donate the money to Bailieborough Cancer Care.
“I had cancer myself number one and I recovered from it,” he said.
Laurence previously owned the SuperValu in Bailieborough before the current owner Lorraine Harris, and said the town is “close to my heart” which is why he chose to donate to the Bailieborough charity.
The Mullagh man didn’t use the service himself during his cancer journey however he knew that they were there if he needed them.
“I know from speaking to people around Bailieborough how beneficial it is,” he said, specifically mentioning the travel aspect where the charity brings patients to and from their appointments.
“They have three cars on the road and there is a lot of costs involved.”
The players presented the cheque to Eugene Fox of Bailieborough Cancer Care.
“They were very grateful, I couldn’t believe how grateful they were.”
