High pressure will build near Ireland bringing a good deal of dry weather. So says the latest summary from the national weather forecaster.
Today will be a largely bright and breezy day with sunshine and scattered rain or hail showers. Some of the showers will be heavy and prolonged, with a few thunderstorms possible. Highest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees in fresh to strong and gusty west to northwest winds.
Showers will become confined to Atlantic coastal areas on Wednesday night with clear spells developing. A cold night with lowest temperatures of -2 to +2 degrees, allowing frost to develop as westerly winds fall light over land.
A bright and fresh day again on Thursday with plenty of sunshine. There will just be a few passing light showers. Highest temperatures will range from 7 to 10 degrees in moderate west to northwest breezes.
Largely dry on Thursday night with long clear spells. Frost will develop in some areas along with pockets of fog. Lowest temperatures of -2 to +2 degrees generally but milder along Atlantic coastal fringes.
It is expected to be a mostly dry day on Friday with sunny spells. Maximum temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees in moderate to fresh southwest winds.
Cloud looks set to increase from the Atlantic on Friday night bringing outbreaks of rain to parts of the west and northwest. However, it looks set to hold largely dry elsewhere. Lowest temperatures of 2 to 5 degrees in moderate to fresh southerly winds.
On Saturday, a weakening band of rain will push southeastwards over Ireland, but rainfall amounts will be minimal. Drier and clearer weather will develop in the northwest for the afternoon. Maximum temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees with mostly light variable winds.
Continuing mostly dry on Sunday with some sunny spells. Maximum temperatures ranging from 9 to 11 degrees, in moderate to fresh southwest winds.
Current indications suggest that high pressure will remain nearby, bringing largely dry weather for the early days of next week.
