Man killed in quad accident in Finea
Prayers said for motorcyclist in critical condition.
The man who lost his life in a fatal road traffic collision in Finea last Saturday afternoon, February 22, has been named as Dean Wearen, of Magdalene Court, Kells, a 26-year old father of one.
Mr Wearen was the driver of a quad bike that was in collision with a motorcycle. The accident occurred at approximately 3:30pm on a road at Ballynascarry, not far from the Cavan county border.
The motorcyle driver received critical injuries in the crash, and also injured was a third man, who was a passenger on the quad. All three men are understood to have been known to each other.
Mr Wearen was pronounced deceased at the scene, and his body was removed to the mortuary in Midland Regional Hospital, Mullingar.
The male driver of the motorcycle, also aged in his 20s, was taken to the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital; while the quad passenger was brought to Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore with non-life threatening injuries.
A healing mass has been said locally for the motorcyclist from Oldcastle left fighting for his life. The man from the Oldcastle area remains in critical condition at Dublin's Mater Hospital.
Following the accident, the road was closed overnight, and Garda Forensic Collision Investigators attended at the scene on Sunday.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.
Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in Ballynascarry, Finea, between 3pm and 4pm are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí. Mr Wearen is by survived by his son Logan; heartbroken parents, Sinead and Andrew; stepmother Beth; brothers Darren, Troy, and Zac; sisters Kayla, Calla Rose and Amily Grace.
No funeral arrangements were announced at time of going to print, but several tributes were posted online remembering Mr Wearen as a “lovely man” whose kindness “touched everyone around you”.
