Over €340K allocated to community projects locally
Clubs in Cavan and Monaghan are set to benefit from over €340,000 through the Community Recognition Fund.
They are among 163 community projects nationwide to benefit from over €14M announced by the Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary.
The investment announced today will deliver a diverse range of projects and includes upgrades and enhancements to much needed sports facilities, community centres, parks, walking trails and playgrounds.
The following clubs and projects have been successful locally:
Mullahoran GFC - drainage and resurfacing of walking track - €50,220
Ramor United GAA - creation of multi-purpose activity area -€111,749
Cootehill Town Team - redevelopment of the community hub in Cootehill- €120,607
Border Bounce Gymnastics Club Monaghan - refurbishment of derelict building to create a new community hub - €50,000
Cavan Monaghan TD, Brendan Smith, has welcomed the allocations.
"This funding will assist in the upgrading of local amenities and I compliment the clubs who submitted successful applications. Local groups are working diligently to ensure a diverse range of community facilities benefitting local residents and visitors to their areas."
His party colleague, Junior Minister, Niamh Smyth, also expressed her delight at the news.
"These are all really good projects, projects that are designed to welcome and engage new communities living in the local area by enhancing existing community facilities and giving everybody an opportunity to participate," she said.
The Community Recognition Fund was first introduced in 2023 to recognise the huge efforts made by communities in welcoming and supporting people coming to Ireland.
All local authority areas that applied for funding under phase 2 of the Community Recognition Fund 2024 are benefitting from today’s announcement.
The closing date for the next phase of applications is this Friday, February 28.
