Kevin and Klara Carolan on Réalta agus Gaolta.

Dad and daughter duo in TV singing competition

A Cavan family will perform on stage during this weekend's episode of Réalta agus Gaolta on TG4 in a bid to be named the most talented family in Ireland.

Father and daughter Kevin and Klara Carolan from Bailieborough will perform in front of judges on February 23.

Klara's captivating voice accompanied by her father's musicianship is certain to impress the judges.

Klara is a multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter, funeral and wedding singer who commonly busks in Galway and Dublin at weekends.

She said she is “beyond grateful” for the opportunity to perform on TG4's Réalta agus Gaolta.

“I'm really looking forward to performing on stage alongside my Dad, as he always has been my number one supporter and always encouraged me to believe in myself and my music.

“It is an honour to be given the chance to appear on stage with him, and a memory that I will forever cherish,” she said.

Klara says music has always played a “massive role” in her life; she began playing at four years of age and has since learned how to play 14 instruments.

“I'm looking forward to what the future has in store and I hope to encourage any young person to keep the music tradition alive,” she said.

Kevin, meanwhile, is delighted to be performing alongside his talented daughter Klara and says music is in their blood.

“My late father Michael Carolan was known as ‘Mickey the Crooner', which I only found out in the past few days from my uncle Tommy in Luton. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. I'm sure my late father and Klara's grandfather on her mother Gail's side, Johnny Reilly, will be looking down on both of us on Sunday night,” he told the Celt.

“Fingers crossed we do well but all I can say is we got there and will certainly fly the flag for Cavan.”

Each week on Réalta agus Gaolta, six families take on the challenge of entertaining the nation as they go head to head in the hope of securing one of the coveted spots in this year’s final with the ultimate goal of being crowned the most talented family in Ireland.

Judging the families are champion sean-nós singer Irial Ó Ceallaigh and award-winning broadcaster Sinéad Ní Uallacháin.

Each week they’ll be joined by a special guest judge from the world of showbiz.

This week’s guest judge is Irish violinist Aoife Ní Bhriain, Folk Instrumentalist of the Year 2024, whose career has traversed numerous musical genres including classical, traditional, jazz and contemporary music.

To watch Kevin and Klara perform, tune into TG4 at 8:30pm this Sunday.
