Blustery start today but conditions improving

Generally unsettled but with dry and sunny spells also, especially on Saturday. That's the latest summary from Met Éireann.

A blustery start today with squally rain pushing northeastwards over the country. A clearance to sunny spells and showers will follow from the southwest during the morning. The showers will become few and far between by evening with mostly dry weather expected by then. Highest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees in fresh and gusty southwest winds.

Largely dry early tonight but rain will spread from the south during the night. There'll be some heavy falls overnight with the possibility of spot flooding. A windy night with fresh to strong southerly winds. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees.

A wet start on Friday with spells of heavy rain. Brighter weather with a mix of sunshine and scattered showers will extend from the west through the morning, with the last of the rain clearing from the east coast by lunchtime. Highest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees in fresh and gusty southwest winds.

Plenty of dry and clear weather on Friday night but there'll be a few showers in Atlantic coastal counties. Cooler than previous nights with lowest temperatures of 4 to 7 degrees in a moderate southwest breeze.

Saturday looks set to be a bright day with lots of sunshine and just a few passing showers, these mainly affecting the west and northwest. Highest temperatures of 10 to 12 degrees in moderate southwest winds. A dry start on Saturday night but cloud will thicken overnight and rain will push eastwards across the country soon after midnight. An increasingly windy night with strong to gale force southerly winds developing. Lowest temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees, occurring early in the night.

Wet and windy on Sunday morning with spells of heavy rain. The rain will gradually clear eastwards during the afternoon with scattered showers following from the west. Highest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees in strong to gale force southwest winds. Clear spells and scattered showers on Sunday night, the showers most frequent in the west. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 7 degrees in fresh southwest winds.

It is expected to be fresh and blustery on Monday with sunny spells and showers. Some of the showers will be heavy with hail and thunder possible. Maximum temperatures of 6 to 10 degrees in fresh and gusty west to southwest winds.
