Firearms and 1,500 rounds of ammunition seized in Co Meath after major Garda operation
A handgun with three fully loaded magazines was recovered along with an improvised handgun (subject to ballistic examination) during a search operation at a house in Bettystown. 1,500 rounds of ammunition was also seized.
As part of ongoing inquires by the Detective Unit based at Coolock Garda Station, a residential property in Bettystown, Co Meath, was searched under warrant on Wednesday, 19th February 2025.
During the search, a 9mm CZ handgun with three fully loaded magazines was recovered along with an improvised handgun (subject to ballistic examination).
In addition to the firearms, over 1,500 rounds of ammunition were seized, consisting of an assortment of 9mm, .22, .38, .45 rounds and shotgun cartridges.
A man in his 40s has been arrested in connection with the seizure and is currently detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939 at a Garda Station in the Dublin Region.
All seized items are subject to forensic and ballistic examination.
Investigations are ongoing.
