Man hospitalised following serious assault

A male in his 20s is understood to be fighting for his life in hospital following a serious assault at a bar in Cavan Town in the early hours of this morning (Saturday).

This morning a Garda cordon was up and the gates shut on the alleyway entering the 5th Avenue on Main Street.

The incident, an alleged serious assault, is believed to have occurred shortly before midnight last night, Friday, February 14.

The avenue is currently being preserved for forensic and technical examination and Gardai are preparing to issue an appeal for any witnesses to come forward and assist with their inquiries.

"No other injuries were reported. The scene is being preserved for examination. Investigations are ongoing," say Gardaí.
