Success for Leitrim school
A Leitrim school has won the county prize in the senior category of the very prestigious ‘Someone Like Me’ Competition.
Third Class in Four Masters NS Kinlough, Co. Leitrim felt “delighted” when it emerged that they were successful in the competition, comprising 2,700 entries.
Three children representing their class travelled to City Hall in Dublin along with their teacher Ms. Duffy and Principal Mrs. Lee to collect their award.
Those at home in the school zoomed in to the ceremony, which was livestreamed, from their classroom in Kinlough.
When announcing the result, presenter, Clara Murray, described the project as “an amazing piece that showcased children’s involvements to explain the different needs in their classroom and celebrate differences, in particular the children’s understanding of accessibility within their community”.
“It came as a wonderful surprise to everyone,” said Mrs Lee
The children from the class who had worked “so hard” on this project, under the direction of their teacher Ms. Duffy, were “thrilled.”
“Both in City Hall and back in the classroom in the Four Masters NS, cheers of joy could be heard from afar. The community of Kinlough, who featured in the project, are so proud of our pupils and congratulations are pouring in from the community and wider county,” Mrs Lee furthered.
Third class will showcase their project for the school community in the coming weeks. The school thanked the National Disability Authority who organised the competition and to the judges who “painstakingly” adjudicated the projects.
“We would also like to acknowledge the fantastic work of all the schools who entered and congratulate them all,” said Mrs Lee.
