Cornafean women's day a huge success
Women’s health was to the fore in Cornafean last Sunday as the community hosted a Ladies Pamper and Wellness Fair.
Over 20 stalls showcased what they had to offer, giving advice on nutrition, skincare, therapies, healing, gardening, wellbeing, colour matching and more. The event was also home to fabulous home-baked goods, tea and coffee where women of all ages could gather, learn, have a chat and take some time out. Clothing, jewellery and sweet treats were also available for purchase on the day.
Deirdre Donnelly and Patricia Duignan came up with the idea of hosting the event. They made it happen along with a devoted committee. Deirdre believes women’s health is “hugely important”.
“Every woman in every house is hugely important, they are a huge role model in every house.
“They need to look after themselves in order to look after the house, look after everyone, look after all that has to be done, they are the core of every household.”
With this in mind, the day posed an opportunity for women in the area to take some time out for themselves. The mother of three was delighted that people attended from all over Cavan.
“It was absolutely lovely.
“There were people from all over who came and got an awful lot out of it.”
The diversity of stalls on display “went down a treat” among the women.
“People within the locality and the county got to realise what certain people do in the locality,” she said.
Pauline Clarke from Mind Nua was there from a mindfulness perspective, while Cuan Cancer Care did reflexology sessions. Other offerings on the day included displays from Cavan Massage Therapy Clinic, Healing with Sue, Therese Johnston from Growing Together who showed people how they can grow their own produce and Charlene’s Wholesome Pantry among many others. The Cornafean Community Support and Social Group also had a stand, which was extremely popular, with many new members signing up on the day.
“It just goes to show you that people need to get out and they need things to go to and especially women.
“It was a lovely community thing where people from the community came, paid in and the money was going back into the community.”
The “majority” of the funds raised on the day will go back into Cornafean Football Club, specifically the All-Star Group, which has been set up for children with disabilities.
“It was very wholesome day; the community looking after everyone.”
