Cllr Anthony Waldron.

Tributes to Roscommon cllr

The elected members of Cavan County Council have passed a vote of sympathy to the family of the late Anthony Waldron, first elected as a member of Roscommon County Council in 2004.

Cllr Waldron, from Ballintubber, Roscommon and formerly, Aghamore, Mayo, sadly passed away at his home on Sunday, February 9.

Predeceased by his parents Jim and Mary, and his uncle Tony, Cllr Waldron is survived by his siblings Mary, Breege, Sheila, Seamus, Padraic, Trish, Eamon and David; extended family and relatives; his good friend Tommy Joe Finnegan, colleagues, neighbours and a wide circle of friends.

He was successfully returned as an Independent member of the local authority in 2019 and re-elected in last June’s local elections.

He also served as a former chairman of the Roscommon Municipal District and, at the time of his passing, was chair of Roscommon County Council’s Roads, Transportation and Emergency Services Strategic Policy Committee (SPC).

Tributes were led by Independent Ireland's Shane P. O'Reilly who described him as a “gentleman”.

Brendan Fay (Ind) meanwhile said Cllr Waldron was a “lovely man”.
