Newborn Baby Grants to be paid today

The first of the Newborn Baby Grants are to be paid today to forty-six Cavan families today.

The €280 grant is payable with the first month of Child Benefit.

The grant applies to all children born on or after December 1 2024 and who qualify for Child Benefit.

Local Fianna Fáil TD and Minister of State Niamh Smyth has welcomed confirmation from her party colleague and Minister for Social Protection Dara Calleary that the payment of the first Newborn Baby Grants will be made to parents this week.

From March, eligible parents will receive the Newborn Baby Grant in addition to the first month’s Child Benefit payment.

Minister Smyth said she is "delighted" that this week will see the rolling out of the first of the Newborn Baby Grants that were announced as part of Budget 2025.

“Parents of new babies do not need to apply for the grant as it will be automatically paid to families of newborns," she said.

"This means that 46 families across Cavan and 35 families in Monaghan will receive their Newborn Baby Grant payments today," she said.

"Welcoming a new baby is a special and joyful time, but we know it also comes with added costs for families," she said, adding that her party "is committed to supporting parents" with the Newborn Baby Grant.

She said this will be "putting extra money in their pockets when they need it most."

"This investment reflects our dedication in Government to helping support families from the very start."
