More than 2,200 still without power across County Cavan

Fresh blackouts reported in south of the county

More than 2,200 households, businesses and farms across County Cavan remain without power today - almost two weeks following Storm Éowyn.

Among them, customers in the south Cavan and north Longford area, some of whom had their power restored in recent days, are reporting further blackouts this afternoon.

Faults have been reported at the Finea and Mullinalaghta hubs with various restorations times between Friday and Saturday estimated.

A spokesperson told the Celt: "In some instances, when carrying out restoration work on main lines, customers whose power has been reconnected should be aware that power may have to be disconnected again for short periods of time to allow their neighbours to be reconnected. These interruptions ensure that restoration work can safely take place on the system."

According to the ESB Power Check online facility, there were 2,252 customers without power in County Cavan as of 3:15pm this afternoon.

The vast majority have been out since the storm hit.

The number of connections impacted are as follows:

Bailieborough: 50 customers

Ballyjamesduff: 21

Carrigallen (parts of west Cavan): 831

Cavan: 147

Derrycramph: 42

Drumbear: 17

Errigal (Cootehill): 16

Finea: 1054

Killeshandra: 20

Telaydon: 54

Commenting on the ongoing outages, the spokesperson added: "We are working towards restoring the majority of these customers over the coming days however, in the areas with the largest number of faults some customers may see their estimated restoration times change, in some cases, into the weekend."

He further advised that estimated restoration times will continue to be updated on the www.PowerCheck.ie website.
