An inclusive space for your fitness journey
Zest Health and Fitness Club is an award-winning sports and leisure facility located in the Cavan Crystal Hotel.
With members hitting the fully-equipped gym, swimming pool, sauna, jacuzzi and steam room, there is always cheerful chatter along the changing room corridors. They can enjoy their session in confidence, knowing the facility was recently awarded the ‘Overall Hotel Leisure Category Award’ and the ‘Outstanding Award’ for quality and high standards at the Ireland Active National Quality Standard Awards.
With long-serving staff members who know their members by name, Zest provides a friendly atmosphere for your fitness journey, where individuals of all fitness backgrounds are made to feel at home.
“Definitely it’s one of the better hotel gyms,” said Zest Health and Fitness Club Manager Gayle Anderson.
When the Celt called to the facility, an Aqua Fitness class was taking place at the on-site swimming pool. Over 30 participants, men and women of all ages, gathered in the pool for a class. Gayle has been teaching the class for over 20 years and says it has proved a hit among participants as a “gentle” means of exercise which still gets your heart rate going.
“It definitely works your muscles, your ligaments, your joints but it’s a softer way,” she described.
The facility provides one-to-one swimming lessons and group lessons with three instructors, giving members lots of flexibility. Classes run at Zest seven days per week.
“That opens it up to people, they’re not as tied into a certain class or a certain time,” says Gayle.
Gayle believes it is “absolutely” vital for children to learn how to swim.
“It’s a life skill,” she added.
The facility also welcomes people for recovery or rehabilitation sessions.
“Our pool is 1.3m so it’s a nice depth for everybody, no one is out of their depth but they can walk up and down even if they are not swimmers.”
In the gym, members are offered an induction to understand the benefits of the various equipment and how to use them. They also offer fitness assessments, plans and personal training to suit any training regime.
“We’re here to help people,” Gayle encouraged, adding that they urge people to make full use of their membership with all facilities under one roof.
“We have a mix of people who just use the gym, others who just use the pool and then a lot of people use a bit of both.”
The facility boasts “good opening hours” which gives flexibility to call in before or after work, during weekends and Bank Holidays.
