Dry few days ahead but turning more unsettled at weekend

A largely dry and bright start to this morning with sunny spells and just isolated showers, mainly in the north and west. Cloud will increase later this afternoon from the west and outbreaks of rain or drizzle will develop in Atlantic counties by evening. Highest afternoon temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees with light to moderate south to southwest winds, freshening in the west and northwest later.

Rain will move eastwards across the country early on tonight and will be heavy at times. Clear spells and isolated showers will follow from the west. Lowest temperatures of 0 to 5 degrees with moderate to fresh southerly winds veering westerly, then easing light to moderate overnight.

Friday will be a dry day with spells of sunshine that will turn hazy at times. Highest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees in light and variable winds, becoming southerly later.

It will become cloudy on Friday night, with some patches of light rain or drizzle developing over the western half of the country. Lowest temperatures of 1 to 5 degrees generally, mildest towards the west coast, with moderate to fresh southerly winds.

Turning a little more unsettled with rain and breezy conditions at times over the bank holiday weekend.

Breezy and rather dull on Saturday with outbreaks of light rain or drizzle mainly in the west and south. Heavier, more persistent rain will move into the west and southwest by evening. Highest temperatures of 8 to 12 degrees in a moderate to fresh southerly wind.

Saturday night will be cloudy and wet with widespread rain, turning heavy at times. Breezy at first with moderate to fresh southerly winds but winds will turn westerly and ease overnight. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 7 degrees.

Wet in the east on Sunday morning. The rain will quickly clear eastwards leaving dry and bright conditions for the rest of the day, but some cloud and drizzle may linger near the southeast coast. Highest temperatures of 8 to 10 degrees with light west to southwest winds.
