Significant debris on road surfaces and overhanging branches
Temperatures are set to fall below zero overnight, creating additional hazards.
While many of the roads across County Cavan blocked by fallen trees have re-opened following Storm Eowyn, there remains significant debris on road surfaces and overhanging branches may still present a hazard, while already weakened trees may fall during the night.
Additionally, temperatures are set to fall below zero overnight, creating additional hazards.
Fire service and Municipal District crews continue to work to clear trees and other hazards, and salting crews will be deployed to treat priority routes, but caution is still advised.
Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council, Cllr TP O’Reilly, has called on motorists and road users to exercise caution and reduce speeds and expect the unexpected.
“While the winds have subsided, the clean-up operation will continue for days to come. I thank our firefighters, roads crews, and civil defence volunteers for their efforts in trying circumstances and appeal to the public to continue to take care as we work to restore infrastructure and services.”
