An evening of songs with Sandy Kelly
Join Sandy Kelly and very special guest, Marc Roberts, with Sandy’s live band for a very special intimate evening of new songs, old songs and life stories at Townhall Arts Centre Cavan on Friday, 7 February at 8pm.
In October 2023, Sandy Kelly released her self-penned autobiography ‘In My Own Words’, a deeply personal memoir that dived into her life growing up in a showbusiness family and the trials she has endured continuing on the family tradition, which still sees her perform widely today.
On this concert tour, Sandy will give audiences a first-hand peek into some of her life’s stories, intertwined within a stunning set of all her classic hit songs and new songs from her recent album released in tandem with the autobiography.
The album, ‘Leaving It All Behind’, was recorded at what was Johnny Cash’s personal studio, Cash Cabin in Nashville and produced by five-time Grammy Award-winning producer John Carter Cash (Johnny Cash, June Carter, Loretta Lynn) and an A-list Nashville session band. Twelve tracks, traversing the lines of classic country and contemporary folk, including re-cut acoustic versions of Sandy’s duets with Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson, ‘Woodcarver’ and ‘Against The Wind’, respectively and the latter featuring Marty Stuart as a guest musician. As well as the duet ‘Old Love’ with Mike Hanrahan of Stockton’s Wing. ‘Leaving It All Behind’ is a legacy album that confirms Sandy’s position at the apex of the European country music ladder.
Sandy’s first record, ‘Come Back Billy Joe’ reached number two in the Irish pop charts. She represented Ireland at the 1982 Eurovision Song Contest, as lead singer in The Duskeys. She has achieved multiple Gold Records, including hit duet ‘Woodcarver’ with Johnny Cash and her version of Willie Nelson’s ‘Crazy’ was one of the biggest selling singles in Ireland in 1989. For three years, she hosted her own weekly RTÉ TV Series ‘Sandy’.
Sandy’s very special guest, Marc Roberts, represented Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest and came a credible second with ‘Mysterious Woman’. Marc is also renowned for his critically acclaimed and award winning show 'A tribute to the music of John Denver'. He has co-written with top songwriters, including Brian Kennedy, Charlie McGettigan, Jimmy McCarthy and Daniel O'Donnell.
