Man further remanded in custody on murder and attempted murder charges
A 31-year-old Ballyconnell man appeared this morning via video link at Cavan District Court charged with murder and attempted murder following a stabbing last weekend.
Danny Heyneman of Kilnavart, Ballyconnell, Cavan, is charged with the murder of Annie Heyneman at Kilnavart last Saturday, and also the attempted murder of Henk Heijneman on the same date and at the same place.
The defendant, who is known to the victims, is currently in custody in Cloverhill Prison.
Sergeant Damien Galligan requested the defendant be remanded in custody for one week to allow for DPP directions in the case.
Defence solicitor Damien Rudden told the judge that his client wanted to be transferred to Castlerea Prison.
However Mr Rudden was told the judge didn’t have the power to do that and the defendant would be required to make an application for transfer to Castlerea.
Mr Heyneman was remanded in custody to appear again via video link at Cavan District Court next Thursday, on January 23, 2025.
At Monaghan District Court last Wednesday, evidence of arrest, charge and caution was given by Det Sergeant Sharon Walsh of Cavan Garda Station.
The court heard that the accused replied "no comment' to the charges.
Legal aid was granted.
