A focus on traditional crafts
Crafts of Ireland is managed by Sandra Coote in Virginia who is one of the four to feature in next week's LEO Showcase.
Based on a sixth generation family farm, the business is dedicated to promoting and preserving traditional Irish crafts and skills. It serves as both a craft studio and heritage hub, offering a wide range of experiences, workshops and handcrafted products that reflect Ireland's cultural heritage.
The wool kits created by Crafts of Ireland start with the fibre from their own Irish rare breed Roscommon Sheep and wool sourced from local farmers. This offers crafters the opportunity to enjoy a creative experience knowing that the materials they use are sustainably sourced and 100% Irish. Each kit is carefully hand built to reflect the Cootes' love of their environment.
The kits are accompanied by an online tutorial to reduce paper usage and packaged in recyclable cardboard boxes. “This event will allow us to bring our product to a wider international audience and it’s the first time for us to be involved in Showcase,” said Sandra of the opportunity.
“We’ve had good assistance from LEO Cavan to get our product ready, design our stands, and workshops that we had to attend for training. So there has been quite a lot of work involved to actually reach this stage. We have been lucky too in that we have been shortlisted in the Sustainability Champion award. We are very much looking forward to the event; I’m busy tying up some loose ends here now.”
