Man charged in connection with Ballyconnell murder

Suspect due to appear before court this morning

A man has been charged in relation to the murder of a woman at her home in Ballyconnell at the weekend.

The man, in his 30s, is expected to appear before Monaghan District Court this morning (Wednesday), January 15.

The body of mum of five Annie Heyneman (55), née McLoughlin, was found on Saturday night, January 11. She had been stabbed a number of times.

Gardaí subsequently launched a murder investigation. A man was arrested at a takeway premises in Ballyconnell a short time later.

The woman's husband Henk (60s), a native of Holland, also suffered serious injuries during the incident. He remains in hospital where his condition is now described as “stable”.

The man due to appear in court this morning is understood to be known to the couple.
