Man appears in court charged with murder and attempted murder
A 31-year-old Ballyconnell man appeared this morning at Monaghan District Court charged with murder and attempted murder.
Danny Heyneman of Kilnavart, Ballyconnell, Cavan is charged with the murder of Annie Heyneman at Kilnavart on Saturday last, and on the same date and at the same place attempted to murder Henk Heijneman.
Det Sergeant Sharon Walsh of Cavan Garda Station gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution.
She said she arrested the accused yesterday, Tuesday, January 14 at 9.45 at Cavan Garda Station. She charged him at 10.43. She read over the charges and cautioned him.
The accused replied "no comment' to the charges.
Court presenter Sergeant Lisa McEntee requested, and was granted, a remand to this Friday to Cavan District Court for DPP directions.
Judge Raymond Finnegan assigned Mr Damien Rudden, solicitor under the legal aid scheme to represent the accused.
The judge told Mr Rudden he couldn't remand the accused to Castlerea, and would have to remand him to a remand prison from where a request could be made for a transfer.
Judge Finnegan remanded the accused in custody to appear this Friday via video link in Cavan District Court.
