Active travel projects in Cavan receive €3m in funding
County Cavan has received €3M for Active Travel projects it was revealed today.
The sum was allocated by the National Transport Authority (NTA) and will help fund a variety of projects including numerous Safe Routes to School and Greenway upgrades.
The funding was welcomed locally, but it is significantly down on previous allocations.
Last February County Cavan Active Travel projects received a total of €3,825,000; while in February 2023 Cavan received €3.5m in funding across 34 projects.
Meanwhile Monaghan this year has received €2.5m in this allocation.
Welcoming this funding, Cavan-Monaghan TD Niamh Smyth said: "I am thrilled to see such a substantial investment in active travel both Cavan and Monaghan for 2025. This funding will make our communities safer and more accessible for walkers and cyclists.
"I am confident that these projects will have a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of the people of both counties.
"We need to make active travel a practical and viable option for people, and this funding is a significant step towards that goal and shows a strong commitment to promoting sustainable and active travel options across both counties.''
