Staff recruitment for ADHD service in Cavan Monaghan ongoing

Staff recruitment for an ADHD service under Cavan Monaghan Mental Health Service (CMMHS) has been approved.

The Health Service Executive confirmed that Minister Butler has approved the recruitment of staff, in response to a Parliamentary Question from Deputy Niamh Smyth.

Recruitment began in December for a Clinical Nurse Specialist, Senior Psychologist, Senior Occupational Therapist, administrative support and Consultant Psychiatrist.

Interviews have been taking place for the Consultant Psychiatrist post early this month.

Welcoming the update, Deputy Smyth said she was "delighted" to have received the "positive" update on progress made towards the establishment of an ADHD clinic for Cavan.

"Recruitment for key positions is ongoing and began in December, and I particularly welcome the fact that interviews have been taking place as of early this month.

"This service is hugely important for our community," she said, adding that she will "continue to engage" with the HSE on the "importance" of the facility.

She continued to say the clinic needs to be operational "as soon as possible."

"At the moment there is a real lack of services for adults with ADHD, who need to be assisted and given proper treatment," she concluded.
