ETB training campus ready to 'rock n' roll'
The new Cavan and Monaghan Education and Training Board (CMETB) apprenticeship training space near Monaghan Town is “nearly ready to rock n’ roll” a recent meeting of members was informed.
Located within the Milltown Industrial Estate, the premises will facilitate practical learning and skills training, specifically in electrical and manufacturing apprenticeships.
Speaking at the December meeting of the board in Cavan Institute recently, ETB CEO Dr Fiona McGrath said members would be provided with an opportunity to visit and see the work that’s being done first-hand.
The development of the facility, previous meetings were told, is designed to address the backlog of apprenticeships nationally.
Monaghan County Council last year granted the ETB a 10-year permission to change the use of the unit from commercial/light industry use into a training facility with associated teaching spaces.
Training in original equipment manufacturing (OEM) apprenticeships will run alongside electrical apprenticeship courses in the new training space.
CMETB, meanwhile, has been named as a project partner in two large scale collaborative projects, which have secured significant PEACE Plus funding through the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).
They have also been awarded Green capital funding from SOLAS to upgrade FET centres regarding energy efficiency.
