Status Orange warning for Cavan and Monaghan

A Status Orange warning for low temperatures and ice has been issued for Cavan and Monaghan and 20 other counties for tonight.

The warning comes into effect from 8pm and will last until 10am tomorrow (Wednesday) morning.

The warning will serves Cavan, Monaghan, Longford, Meath, Westmeath, Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Offaly, Wicklow, as well as the counties of Munster and Connacht.

A separate Status Orange warning for low temperatures has also been issued for Wedneday night.

That warning will come into effect at 6pm on Wednesday and will last until 11am on Thursday morning.

The warning will also cover Dublin, Louth and Wexford, which are not included in Tuesday's status Orange notice.

Met Éireann has warned of "extremely cold" weather with widespread severe frost, ice and lying snow.
