Cavan screening and Q&A for ‘Housewife of the Year’
‘Housewife of the Year’, the award-winning documentary by acclaimed Cavan director Ciarán Cassidy, will receive a special screening and Q&A at Odeon Cinema Cavan on Thursday, January 9.
The screening is being presented by Cavan Arts Festival, Townhall Cavan Arts Centre, and Cavan Arts Office. It’s the first time this award-winning documentary, which won the Jury Award for Best Documentary at this year's Newport Beach Film Festival in Los Angeles, as well as claiming best Irish Feature at the Galway Film Fleadh, will be screened in Ciarán’s native Cavan.
Ciarán has wowed critics and audiences alike with his previous films including ‘The Last Days of Peter Bergman’ and ‘Jihad Jane’ as well as achieving global success with his work on Second Captains’ podcasts ‘Where is George Gibney?’ and the hugely popular ‘Stakeknife’ on BBC Sounds.
‘Housewife of the Year’ tells the story of Ireland’s treatment of women through the prism of a unique, surreal, live televised competition — which really must be seen to be believed — where a generation of Irish women competed in front of a live audience for the title of Ireland’s ‘Housewife of the Year’.
Described as “not to be missed” by The Irish Independent, and “a celebration of a generation” by the Irish Times, this poignant yet warmly funny documentary has won hearts across the nation for its touching, often hilarious, and utterly uplifting story of a resilient generation of women and how they changed a country. It is, as Oliver Callan gushed on RTÉ radio, “a joyful thing”.
‘Housewife of the Year’ will screen at Odeon Cinema, Cavan Town on Thursday, January 9 at 8pm, followed by a Q&A with the director, who will be joined by some guests from the competition’s past. Tickets are available to book online at https://townhallartscentre.ticketsolve.com.
