Best County Cavan arts event: Culture Night’s diverse programme offered something for everyone. Walk The Plank by Cikada Circus was a captivating comedic physical theatre performance which enthralled both me and my two young children, showcasing the charm and accessibility of the night’s events.
One to watch: Raquel Montero Calero from Visceral Studios is an exceptional all-rounder, she is a sublime visual artist, dancer, writer, and performer. Originally from Spain, Raquel has become an integral part of the local arts community, bringing her immense talent and creativity to every project she undertakes.
Best film: In the Land of Saints and Sinners is a tense and gripping thriller. At the top of his game, Liam Neeson plays the leading role, a retired assassin trying to leave his violent past behind, until trouble finds him again.
Best TV: Eating with the Enemy is TV Gold. The concept of sitting two people with opposing views, down for a meal is simple but so effective. It’s not just about conflict; it’s about understanding and connection.
Best music: I saw Shania Twain in Malahide Castle and Rag’n’Bone Man was her support act. Watching his passion live is pure magic! His soulful voice fills the room. It’s an unforgettable mix of grit, heart, and incredible talent, sang with his signature raspy vocal.
Best theatre: The standout show was Dying Minutes, written by Liz O'Hanlon and directed by Liam Daly. This newly written piece, which deservedly won the All Ireland Confined One-Act 2024, really left an impact. I’m hoping it’s not the last we see of it.
