Snow expected later today

Status yellow snow and ice warning for Cavan effective from 5pm this evening.

It's a cold and frosty start to the weekend with some areas of fog.

Today will be a largely dry day apart from a few showers near the north coast.

There will be some hazy sunshine in the morning but cloud will build from the south during the day.

Highest afternoon temperatures will range from 0 to 3 degrees in light southeast or variable winds.

A yellow snow and ice warning will come into effect for counties Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, Dublin, Kildare, Longford, Louth, Meath, Westmeath, Connacht at 5pm this evening (Saturday), until 5pm tomorrow.

Met Eireann have warned against falls of sleet and snow with snowfall accumulations expected.

Potential impacts are hazardous travelling conditions, poor visibility and travel disruption

Tonight will be cold and increasingly breezy.

A band of rain and sleet will spread from the south during the night, turning increasingly to snow in some areas.

Accumulations of snow are expected in some areas later in the night, especially across the south of the province.

Lowest temperatures of -1 to +3 degrees with fresh east to northeast winds developing.
