Cold day ahead with threat of hail and sleet

Frost will clear this morning to leave a cold day with a threat of hail and sleet later on.
But it'll be “dry and sunny” in many areas too, says Met Éireann.
“There'll be scattered showers though, some of hail and sleet and a few snow flurries too.”

The national weather office have themselves issued a status Yellow weather warning of low temperatures and ice across all of the country.
"Very cold with widespread frost and ice as temperatures fall to -3 degrees or below in many areas," they say, with the potential to cause hazardous travelling conditions, animal welfare issues.
The warning remains in place until 11am on Friday.
It will remain cold tonight with clear spells and scattered showers- “some wintry”.
Lowest temperatures of -5 to 0 degrees with widespread frost and some ice developing.
“Winds will be mostly light west to northwesterly or variable, but will be fresher in northern coastal parts.”
Tomorrow will see frost and ice in the early part of the day clear to leave another cold day with “persistent rain” warned of for a time particularly in northern parts of the province.
