The late Dr Eamonn Hartmann.

Death of popular local GP

It is with regret that we note the death of retired local GP, Dr Eamonn Hartmann, Drumconnick, Cavan and formerly of Galway City.

He passed away peacefully at his home last Saturday, December 28, surrounded by his loving family.

Dr Hartmann is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Maureen; their daughters Lynn and Jill; cherished grandchildren Finn, Barra, Rian and Rhys; sons-in-law Andrew and Noel; brother Ken, sister Carol, stepbrother Pierce, stepsisters Val and Joan; in laws, nephews, nieces, his extended family, his former work colleagues at Drumalee Family Practice, and his many, many friends.

He was predeceased by his sister Olivia, brother Garry and nephew Mark.

His remains left his home at Drumconnick outside Cavan Town on Monday morning last, December 30, travelling by County Cavan Golf Club and Farnham Road to the Cathedral of Ss Patrick and Felim Cavan for Funeral Mass. A cremation in Lakeland's Crematorium took place after.

Dr Hartmann began practising as a GP in Cavan back in the 1970s, before setting out on his own in 1982, first establishing a surgery at Church Street before entering a partnership with Dr Dara Hume in establishing the Drumalee Cross Family Practice in June 2006.

He served as Captain at County Cavan Golf Club in 1997, and Vice Captain the year before that.

He was a member of the Treacy Cup winning team in 1997.

Dr Hartmann was also a member and a past player with Cavan Rugby Club, serving on its Executive Committee; and a former member of the Cavan Icebreakers committee; and the Friends of Cavan General Hospital committee.

He was among those who lobbied all politicians to put pressure on the government to provide a 50-metre swimming pool at the time when there was none in Ireland; and for a time served as area spokesman for the Irish Medical Organisation (IMO).

He retired as a GP in 2019.
