Musicians from four local primary schools entertained president Michael D Higgins at Áras an Uachtaráin.

A proud day for Cavan musicians

Four local schools played for a very special guest, Santa, in Áras an Uachtaráin on December 7.

Gaelscoil Bhréifne, Farnham NS, Butlersbridge NS and Killygarry NS have met on several occasions to perform together as part of a new growing primary school orchestra project.

It began during Seachtain na Gaeilge in March of this year where the Principals involved, Niamh Ní Cheallaigh, Geraldine Dolan, Niall Clerkin and Serena Prior acknowledged the importance of children playing music together.

The President Michael D Higgins and his wife Sabina, invited the schools to play and enjoyed the music provided by the children. The children sang carols alongside the President and his family and officially turned on the Christmas tree lights on the grounds of Áras an Uachtaráin.

A very proud day for these students, their schools and Cavan.
