Planning granted for new extension at Bailieborough Community School
Cavan County Council made the announcement this week.
Bailieborough Community School has been granted planning permission for the construction of a new state of the art extension.
The approval, subject to a number of conditions, was issued by Cavan County Council and includes a three-storey development comprising eight general and three specialist classrooms, multimedia, textiles, music and art rooms, two science laboratories, and a library.
Two Special Education Teacher (SET) rooms are also included, along with plans to convert an existing music room into a general classroom. In a bid to minimize the building’s carbon footprint, 50 solar panels will be installed on the roof of the proposed extension.
Local Fianna Fáil TD, Deputy Niamh Smyth says the announcement is “fantastic news” for the school, students, staff, and the wider community.
“The planned extension will provide state-of-the-art facilities, supporting both current and future educational needs,” she continued before adding that she had been “consistently liaising” with her party colleague and Minister for Education Norma Foley to keep this “critical project” on track.
“Planning approval brings us one step closer to seeing these much-needed facilities become a reality. Education is the cornerstone of our community’s future, and I am committed to ensuring that Bailieborough Community School receives the investment it deserves.
“I compliment all staff and students in the school for their patience and cooperation for living within a building with a population of nearly 750 students in a facility built for 600 students. Due to staggered breaks and lunchtimes, imaginative timetables and extra accommodation the school is surviving its deficiency in facilities.”
