Sweet success at Ice Cream Treats
Born and reared in Killeshandra, Gerry Sheridan saw a gap in the market in 2013 for ice-cream and jumped at it creating a multi-national, successful frozen foods business in the heart of the lakeside town .
Ice Cream Treats focuses on creating “premium quality” and “great tasting” ice-cream and prides itself in using “only the best ingredients” to produce luxury Italian gelato flavours.
The company produces for retail and wholesale sectors in Ireland and the United Kingdom, supplying the likes of Tesco, Musgraves, Welcome Break and McDonalds, among others.
“We work with different customers to create bespoke products,” said Gerry. For example the team is currently working on a new range of Signature Tastes, which will be launching in SuperValu over the Christmas period. Flavours include salted butter caramel, coffee and vanilla and passionfruit.
Ice Cream Treats has also developed a range of dairy-free products, which were launched earlier this year in McDonalds in the UK.
“We’re just awaiting confirmation of a full launch over the next couple of months,” said Gerry.
Employing 17 staff members, Gerry first noticed a need for an ice-cream parlour concept in the retail sector in Ireland. The solution to this came in the form of Moo’d Ice Cream.
“That’s where I saw the gap initially but that has developed into the Moo’d concept within Musgraves,” he said, adding that the business has since gained an impressive 450 sites across Ireland.
“We have a nice mix of business between, production concept and traded goods,” he said.
With multiple awards, including Great Taste and Blás na hÉireann medals, the business will continue its success in the future.
Asked if he thought the business would take off like it has, he said “you don’t start something unless you’ve a feeling that it’s going to grow.
“There was always an opportunity for a premium product within Ireland.”
Gerry wished all of his staff and customers a safe and happy Christmas.
