Home baked cakes and fresh turkeys
The smell of cherries, sultanas, raisins and mixed spice filled the air as the Celt entered Kennedy’s Spar in Ballyconnell.
Caught in the midst of making their Christmas cakes, the aroma wafting around the shop reminded customers that Christmas is now less than one month away. The scent, along with the array of hampers, selection boxes, advent calendars, Christmas cards, gifts and more on display really brought a festive flavour to the store. Cupcake boxes for The Late Late Toy Show are also available for families to tuck into during the show this Friday.
“We have started taking orders at our butcher counter,” said owner Brian Kennedy, who assured that butchers Shane and Rodney will have a selection of full turkeys, turkey crowns, ham fillets, t-bone steaks, eye roasts, and more available for all hosts this Christmas.
“Any queries they have on how to cook stuff, they’re able to help,” he assured.
Both Lorraine and Brian have been working on their Christmas hampers this year, which are always a hit among customers. They can be customised to any budget or dietary need containing spirits or wines, biscuits, chocolates and more.
“There’s loads of different types of hampers there, we do a range of hampers that you can browse through.
“We add to that display every week,” he added.
With price drops every week on different ranges of biscuits, alcohol and other groceries, the store is a one-stop-shop for Christmas shopping. They also stock logs, fire lighters, briquettes, smokeless coal and flo gas for all home heating needs.
“Whatever it is people are looking for, we’ll do our best to accommodate them, even if it's something that they’re looking for us to get in for Christmas, we’ll see if we can source it and look after them.”
Orders of turkeys, cakes, toy show cupcake boxes and more can be ordered in store or over the phone on 049-9526500. Turkey orders can be taken until the last Saturday before Christmas. However it's advised to have orders for turkeys and cakes in by December 18 or 19. The store will close on Christmas Day, St Stephen’s Day and New Year's Day.
Kennedy's Spar Supermarket is open from 8am until 9:30pm, Monday to Saturday and 9am to 8pm on Sundays.
