Cottage Market and Santa visit cancelled this weekend

The Cottage Market and Santa meet and greet in Cavan town has been cancelled due to Storm Darragh.

Both were due to take place this weekend however organisers have decided to cancel the events with worsening weather conditions.

"The safety of our visitors, vendors and community is everyone's top priority and with the worsening weather conditions, it's not safe to proceed," organisers of The Cottage Market wrote on Facebook.

They considered holding a one-day market on Sunday however due to Saturday's weather forecast they said "our team and suppliers don't have sufficient time to complete the setup required to make it happen."

"With the greatest disappointment, we will be in touch very soon," the organisers wrote.

The Santa meet and greet, organised by the Cavan Chamber of Commerce has been postponed.

Cavan currently holds a status orange warning with very strong and gusty northwest winds forecast.

The warning is valid from 10pm tonight (Friday) until 10am Saturday (tomorrow).

Met Eireann have listed fallen trees, damage to power lines, very difficult travelling conditions and damage to temporary structures as possilbe impacts.
