A year of 'good tidings' in Ballyjamesduff
There’s much to celebrate in Ballyjamesduff this festive season, according to Cllr Trevor Smith (FG).
“In 2024, we signed the contracts for the development of the Percy French Hotel,” he said.
“This is a massive project for the area and will start in the New Year. It’s a landmark building and the project is an important one. It is also something that we have been lobbying on for the last few years and I’m glad to see that work is commencing on this next year.”
One of the most significant developments in Ballyjamesduff in 2024, according to Cllr Smith, has been the commencement of the 187 Local Link Bus. “It only started a few weeks ago and already the uptake is huge,” he added.
“It provides eight services a day in and out to Ballyjamesduff; it also travels to Virginia, and really this is a gamechanger for the town,” he said.
Cllr Smith added that it’s a “lifeline” for people who don’t drive, students and older people. “It’s bringing more people into our town and that is a really positive development.”
The Fine Gael councillor also highlighted how the road in the town centre was resurfaced in 2024 and safety lines put in place, while a new footpath was installed outside the garda barracks.
Cllr Smith thanked those who voted for him to retain his council seat in the Local Elections earlier this year. “I really appreciate that support because I enjoy the work and I’m glad to be able to continue that for the community.”
Elsewhere, the Christmas lights have been installed in the Co Cavan town made famous by Percy French and Paddy Reilly, and later this week, the Christmas Tree will arrive to much fanfare.
“I want to send best wishes to everyone this festive season; Happy Christmas and a peaceful New year to you all,” concluded Cllr Smith.
