There will be prizes galore up for grabs throughout the Cavan Cottage Market festivities.

Festive fun at the Cottage markets in Cavan

Cavan Town is set to be transformed into a winter wonderland this December for the annual Christmas Cottage Market. The festivities will kick off on Saturday, December 7, and continue on Sunday, December 8, with a market that promises to be jam packed with festive cheer and culture.

On both days the Elf Boot Camp for kids takes place from 1-7pm and will afford the little ones an opportunity to step into the magical world of Santa’s workshop. The elves will be busy assembling, wrapping and loading toys into Santa’s sack for delivery. They will also be caring for Santa’s Flying Reindeer and mixing their special food so they will be well fuelled for the big night!

Throughout proceedings, Santa’s Magic Post Box will also be in situ from 1-7pm. The postbox is on Townhall Street and, while there, children can ring a special bell where Mrs Claus herself will appear and ensure their letters are safely delivered.

An Umbrella Parade is planned on Saturday and Sunday from 5-6pm. The parade is open to all ages and participants are invited to decorate an umbrella and join in the fun on Townhall Street.

Meanwhile, there will be live music from local artists on Townhall Street from 1-7pm; an Arts & Craft Marquee; artisan food on Market Square; DineYard; Street Spectacle; and a Zero Waste event.

This year’s musical lineup features Savage Heart, No Vendors, The Parasol All-Star Jazz Band, and Jon LaFleur. The Virginia Gospel Choir will bring the market to a close with a soulful performance on the main stage on Sunday evening.

Elsewhere, the Market Square’s ‘Music Bench’ will showcase talented local musicians, choirs, and Music Generation acts on both days.

At the Arts & Crafts Marquee, 24 talented, Cavan-based crafters and producers will fill the space with stunning gifts that will include everything from handmade wreaths, knitwear and jewellery to candles, paintings, soaps, wood carved gifts and lots more.

There will be prizes galore up for grabs throughout the festivities and those who wish to enter are being asked to register at the Cottage Market Christmas Hut on Townhall Street from 4-5pm each day. Prizes will also be awarded for the Most Creative, Most Festive, and Most Cavan Umbrella! Winners will be announced on Sunday, December 8, at 7pm.

“We’re excited to introduce new additions to The Cottage Market this year,” says Imelda Mullen.

“Antoinette Ceelan from Aunty Netta’s will be serving mouthwatering churros with sweet and savory options, which will be paired with refreshing homemade lemonade. Vitoria from Auto Pizza will offer a unique Georgian-inspired seven-inch pizza, and Corleggy Cheese will showcase the much-loved beloved melted cheese dish, Raclette.”

An outdoor seating area will create the perfect opportunity for locals and visitors to experience the culture and community spirit that exists in Co Cavan.

Townhall Street will be temporarily pedestrianised during the market so children can play outside safely and adults can socialise!

Parking is available at Cavan Cathedral, Library and Courthouse.
