Power outages and trees down locally due to Storm Bert

Cavan County Council is advising motorists to exercise caution.

60,000 homes, farms and businesses are without power this morning as a result of high winds emanating from Storm Bert.

Areas most adversely impacted include counties Cavan, Monaghan, Leitrim, Donegal, Sligo, Mayo, Galway, Kerry and Cork.

The Ballinamore to Swanlinbar Road is flooded and was closed for a time this morning. It has since reopened.

ESB says crews are being mobilised across impacted areas and will respond to faults where "it is safe to do so". Storm Bert will continue throughout the weekend and further power outages are anticipated.

Meanwhile, Cavan County Council is reporting that numerous tress have fallen overnight and motorists are being advised to exercise caution while driving.

And, the Mullagh to Bailieborough Road is being described as "severely flooded" in a number of locations this morning.. As a result, vigilance by motorists is advised.
