New crime drama could be international hit - Doherty
A new crime drama directed by Philip Doherty is set to hit TV screens this Monday, November 11, and the Cavan man believes it has potential to be a hit across Europe.
Billed as a thrilling six-part Irish-language crime drama, CRÁ is set to make waves when it premieres on November 11 on TG4 and on the TG4 Player; and then on Sunday November 17 on BBC NI.
Set in the Gaeltacht in Donegal, the series promises a gripping story of murder, secrets, and justice in a close-knit Irish village. CRÁ follows police officer Conall Ó Súilleabháin played by Dónall Ó Héalaí as he searches for justice in the most personal of cases—the murder of his own mother, Sabine, whose body is discovered 15 years after her disappearance.
Forbidden from joining the investigation, Conall partners with a determined young journalist, Ciara-Kate, played by Hannah Brady, who is using her true-crime podcast to expose the village’s deepest secrets. As they unravel the truth, they must confront a community bound by silence and its own moral codes. Will truth prevail, or will some secrets stay buried forever?
Philip told the Celt the language barrier shouldn’t hinder CRÁ finding an audience beyond these shores.
“That’s the ambition,” says Philip. “Scandi Noir and Nordic Noir, comes from countries with relatively small populations and yet they have been worldwide successes.
“This show is slightly different in style from the Nordic Noirs, but it is a crime drama and crime drama is hugely popular across the world.
“Distribution companies are already signed up to it from early days and they have plans to distribute it all across Europe and hopefully beyond that.”
