Going ‘Off the Grid’ for St Christopher’s Hospice

Two Cavan men started their brave feat this week to raise funds for St Christopher’s Hospice serving Cavan and Monaghan.

John Magee will today (Sunday, November 10) return to the mainland having spent the weekend on an island out into the waters of Cavan’s Lough Oughter all alone.

Next weekend (Friday,November 15th to Sunday 17th) will be the turn of his friend and colleague Sean O'Flaherty.

“It’ll be okay on the day, I’ll be in the zone,” John predicted, looking ahead to the stay over when he spoke to the Celt earlier this month. "We are ready to meet the weather and that’s an integral part of the challenge."

Last year, a group of three men comprising John, Michael ‘Bricker’ Wall and Brian McCormack went out in mid-November to raise funds for the same cause.

The effort raised over €7000 last year. This year, the target is doubled to €14000.
