Spark your curiosity for Science Week!

Cavan Monaghan Science Festival is back with a bang this November, with a week of electrifying, energising, and gravity-defying events, suitable for all ages.

The event, jointly organised by Cavan County Council and Monaghan County Council, runs from November 11-16, reaching a crescendo with a fantastic 'Family Funday' at Kingscourt Community Centre on Saturday, November 16 (11am-4pm).

This free event boasts an exciting line-up of displays and demonstrations. Fly through the Cosmos at Armagh Planetarium's Digital Theatre Dome, meet Star Wars' R2D2, challenge your friends to a robot battle, get saddles blazing with Cyclectrix, or go deep into the Marble Arch Caves with their VR experience. On the day there will also be soapmaking, CSI workshops, and fire safety demonstrations.

Other events taking place in Cavan include 'The Science of Running' with athletics legend Catherina McKiernan, a Regeneration Exploration workshop at the Bee Barn, Beating Brain Fog with Dr Sabina Brennan, Rewilding Dunsany Nature Reserve with Lord Dunsany, Sourdough Breadmaking, Earth Science Workshops, 'A Cleaner, Greener Home', 'The Body Language of Trees', A Squid Dissection Workshop and 'Back to the Future: How Regenerative Medicine Will Help Us Turn Back the Clock on Aging and Disease'. With a trip to Gaeltech Windfarm on offer also, there is something for everyone at this year's festival!

Launching the event programme in Kingscourt, Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council, Cllr T.P. O'Reilly said, "Cavan-Monaghan Science Festival has won several awards and is rightly lauded as one of the best festivals in the country."

He complimented organisers for striking a "perfect balance" between education and entertainment and is sure to "inspire the next generation of S.T.E.A.M. pioneers".

County Librarian Emma Clancy said: "This year's festival theme is 'Regeneration' and this year's festival is re-energised, with a programme that will appeal equally to children, young people, and adults, and a renewed focus on fun, interactive events. So, whether you're a starry-eyed toddler, or you've a hundred trips around the sun under your belt, there's something at Cavan Monaghan Science Festival for you".
