Local charities become fur-ever friends

Rescue happened in Cavan Town on Thursday.

Three Cavan-based charities have become fur-ever friends after joining forces for a second time to rescue a cat found stranded in a local river this week.

The feline was spotted on Thursday morning last , Novermber 7, struggling in the Cavan River at the centre by staff at Vincent's on Bridge Street.

Shop manager Léan Brady contacted Caroline van den Berg at Wild Wardrobe, but unable to reach, the pair orchestrated a delicate operation to retrieve the increasingly frightened moggy.

Caroline, whose charity raises funds for Wildlife Rehabilitation Ireland, climbed down into the river to get the cat before both were helped back to safety and dry land.

Together the two women then enlisted the help of Jo Maher of Paws and Claws cat rescue, who has now taken the cat to get neutered and hopefully rehomed sometime soon.

The event is reminiscent of another cat rescue at the same location back in July 2022, when again Caroline, assisted by Léan and others, entered the river to save another cat found in distress.
