Records show a mild October
October 2024 was the 23RD warmest October in Ireland since 1900.
The average temperature last month was 11.65°C, the Climate Statement for October 2024 shows.
The temperature recorded was 0.86°C above the most recent long-term average, which is taken between 1991-2020.
Meanwhile, the average temperature recorded during the month for the Cavan area, recorded in Ballyhaise, was 10.7°C.
The warmest October on record was in 1969 with an average temperature of 12.97 °C and the coldest October was in 1981 with an average temperature of 7.70 °C.
It was also the driest October since 2018. Provisional gridded rainfall data suggests it averaged at around 109.2mm.
Mild weather continues
So far, November is continuing on the same unseasonably mild trend. Temperatures today (Wednesday) are expected to hit 17°C for a period.
